"Some shady practices. Excellent interface"

Go Daddy is a privately held company that is primarily an internet domain registrar and web hosting company. Go Daddy filed for an IPO in 2006, but later canceled it due to "market uncertainties". In addition to domain registration and hosting Go Daddy also sells e-business related software and services. On June 24, 2011, the Wall Street Journal reported that private-equity firms KKR and Silver Lake Partners, along with a third investor, were nearing a deal to buy the company for between $2–2.5 billion.[6] On July 1, 2011, Go Daddy confirmed that KKR, Silver Lake Partners, and Technology Crossover Ventures had closed the deal. Although the purchase price was not officially announced it was reported to be $2.25 billion, for 65% of the company. As of December 2011, Bob Parsons has stepped down as CEO into the role of Executive Chairman. Current CEO Blake Irving, joined Go Daddy on January 6, 2013.

I don't have a problem with GoDaddy like others. In fact, I find their interface particularly easy to use for first-timers. Their ease of use makes up for tricking me into paying for more services than I needed by dropping the font size of some minor clauses. I recommend first-timers to watch closely what you pay for when subscribing to GoDaddy's services.

There is plenty of reasons to hate Go Daddy. For one, they supported SOPA until more than 20000 users, with prominent clients such as Wikiepdia threatened to pull over 82,000 domain names off Go Daddy.

SOPA is but one reason. Godaddy's way of doing business is shady. They constantly spam your emails with "Your domain is expiring" when there are still 9 months left on it. Their hosting service is bad and expensive. They'll cut you off without hesitation and notice the moment you have barely reached their threshold. No warning or whatsoever. Their customer service is also really poor. Don't expect to hear from them if you decided to send them emails.

The only upside is their UI, but that's just because I haven't tried a lot of other DNS services. (Only 3 tried so far). If I'm not too lazy, I'd have transferred off Go Daddy, for good.

If only they could spend half of their marketing budget on customer service. Truth be told, GoDaddy is the best known DNS provider out there, but that doesn't translate into the best DNS service. Their customer service is slow. They also make it very hard to unsubscribe to some of their services like the Whois anonymous protection. At such a cheap price though you get the bang for the buck.

I use Go Daddy for my websites ( & and I really like it so far. I especially liked that the first year was so darn cheap! The only reason I marked them down is that the price is going WAY up for this next year. I'm not thrilled to be paying $71 per website... Otherwise, it's easy to use and it lets me do what I need to do.

Dayum Whitman What?! why are you paying $71? I guess you're using it for hosting as well. You can save your $71 and pay $0 if you use S3 for your static site.

Dayum Whitman Check this out. Hope it helps. Dont get ripped off by Go Daddy.

Brandon Cooke Very helpful tips Dayum!
