Morgan Freeman

"I don't care what you think"

by 14 Jurors

Morgan Freeman(born June 1, 1937) is an American actor, film director, and narrator. Freeman has received Academy Award nominations for his performances in Street Smart, Driving Miss Daisy, The Shawshank Redemption and Invictus and won in 2005 for Million Dollar Baby. He has also won a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Freeman has appeared in many other box office hits, including Unforgiven, Glory, Seven, Deep Impact, The Sum of All Fears, Bruce Almighty, Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider, The Dark Knight trilogy, and March of the Penguins. [1]

Stance on racism

Freeman has publicly criticized the celebration of Black History Month and does not participate in any related events, saying, "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history." He says the only way to end racism is to stop talking about it, and he notes that there is no "white history month." Freeman once said on an interview with 60 Minutes's Mike Wallace, "I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man."
Morgan Freeman says the concept of a month dedicated to black history is "ridiculous."

Black History Month has roots in historian Carter G. Woodson's Negro History Week, which he designated in 1926 as the second week in February to mark the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.

Freeman supported the defeated proposal to change the Mississippi state flag, which contains the Confederate battle flag. Freeman sparked controversy in 2011 when, on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight, he accused the Tea Party movement of racism.

Offered to pay for integrated prom

Morgan Freeman once offered to pay for a single prom that both white and black students could attend for his high school in Charleston, Miss., 1997, which, at that time still held separate proms, one for black students, one for white. It took 11 years for the school to take Freeman up on his offer.

Freeman learned about the separate proms while talking with the senior class in 1997. Students were willing when Freeman said he would pay for an integrated prom, but the school board and parents ignored his offer.

"It's kind of disheartening," Freeman said. "In the little town we live in _ this is a really small town _ I don't know how you can live in such a small place and try to be separate." [1]

I've seen almost all of his movies. Morgan Freeman is universally loved, due in part to his great public image. I don't think he's a particularly good actor though.

Morgan Freeman is fine as far as nigger is concerned. However, because of the fact that he's a nigger, people can't help but overrate him.

Alfred Evans @Carbivore Chan Your verdicts are 10 times more intelligent than your comments.

Alfred Evans By the way, do you get rep for posting comments?

Jesse "Burgerm'n" Radin No I don't think so. Only a bit of rep for cheered/jeered comments. On comments I am a troll tbh.

Morgan Freeman's Shawshank Redemption and Seven are both awesome. His presence made Bruce the Almighty and the Dark Knight trilogy all the more enjoyable. Don't forget the nice job he did in narrating the Penguin documentary film and so many other great documentaries like the one about space.

Morgan Freeman is amazing. Not only is he a great actor, he's also a top notch narrator and a great person IRL. Somehow, I think discrimination has more to do with cultural background and education level than skin color. Not to be a racist, but if every black guy learns to speak like him, there will be no discrimination.

Berrett Miller I agree with Morgan Freeman in saying that the only way to end racism is to stop talking about it.

It's nigh impossible to find someone that doesn't like Morgan Freeman. There are special qualities about Freeman that strikes a chord with audiences, qualities can be summarized as a combination of the appearance of a kind old man, his perfect accent and mesmerizing aura of charisma.

There are a lot to be liked about Freeman, most notably his performance in Shawshank Redemption. While there can be no doubt about Freeman's acting, the fact that he is an excellent narrator is often underrated. I fall in love again with Freeman recently when I came across his narration for a documentary. In my opinion, Morgan's best quality is his undoubtedly his voice, which sounds like it can turn water into wine.
