Dragon Ball Z (ドラゴンボールZ(ゼット) Doragon Bōru Zetto?, commonly abbreviated as DBZ) is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. Dragon Ball Z is the sequel to the Dragon Ball anime and adapts the last 325 chapters of the original 519-chapter Dragon Ball manga series created by Akira Toriyama, that were published from 1988 to 1995 in Weekly Shōnen Jump. Dragon Ball Z first aired in Japan from April 25, 1989 to January 31, 1996 on Fuji TV,[1] before being dubbed in several territories around the world, including the United States, Australia, Europe, India, and Latin America.
Dragon Ball Z details the continuing adventure of Goku as a young adult and father to his son Gohan. After learning he is a Saiyan, Goku dies and is revived after training in the afterlife under the god North Kaiō. Goku defends Earth from the Saiyans under Vegeta, and leaves Earth to ultimately defeat them again and the galactic tyrant Frieza. Three years later an evil life form called Cell holds a fighting tournament to decide the fate of the Earth. Goku sacrifices his own life and Gohan avenges his father by defeating Cell. Seven years later, Goku is revived and quickly drawn into a fight against a magical being named Majin Buu. After numerous battles, destruction and recreation of the Earth, Goku destroys Buu with the energy of everyone on Earth making a very powerful attack called "Spirit Bomb".

Dragon Ball Z, or what we called DBZ, was a big deal. I've never read the comic book version of DBZ, but the anime show was awesome despite the extremely slow pace. I guess kids don't have a problem with that.

If you watch it now it's probably unbearable. A fight scene can literally go on for 10 episodes.

Anyhow, the Gohan vs Cell fight was downright the most epic battle in the history of anime!

Looking back, Dragon Ball Z was really cheesy. Not only that, but it had hardly any story at all. The story is basically one bad guy pops up. Wanted to destroy the world. Owned the good guys at first. Then the good guys practice some more and come back to kick the bad guys' asses.

The formulae wouldn't work today, when #manga now either have killer storylines, multidimensional characters, or both. The only debate in Dragon Ball Z is, can Goku defeat this guy, or who is the most powerful person in the universe.

Dragon Ball Z gave me so much fond memories. There was a time when school boys talked about nothing but the latest episode of Dragon Ball. This anime had a great impact on our childhood.

Looking back, Dragon Ball Z doesn't look as good as it seemed. It was a drag. A stalemated fight could last for hours without any progress. Moreover, the power creep makes no sense and there isn't much of a plot, which involves Goku and company getting pissed off and K.O. the villains.

It was fun, nonetheless, to see how the saiyans kept getting stronger. The fight scenes in Dragon Ball Z are still one of the best. The fight made western superhero comics pale in comparison.

To be honest, the anime version of DBZ ain't that great. It has become an antique. Nostalgia often clouds our judgment because of the good time we used to have watching this show when we were kids. DBZ was very cool back in the day but even then, I was annoyed by the extremely sluggish progress. There are a lot of animes and cartoons today that are much better than DBZ in terms of execution of the story, character development and animation style.

I scheduled my entire day around the showing of DBZ on Cartoon Network. That should tell you how much I loved it.

Although many people don't like the fact that there's a lot of filler, I don't mind it; it's an entertaining show and much better than the cartoons on TV today.

Babylon Craig The manga version was much better, IMO. Less talking, more pew pew.

Ng Man this cartoon is too old.

Ng Man sailor moon is also a staple of your childhood XDDDD
